80 Days

80 Days is an interactive fiction game released by Inkle on iOS platforms on July 31, 2014 and Android on December 16, 2014. It was released on Microsoft Windows and OS X on September 29, 2015. It employs branching narrative storytelling, allowing the player to make choices that impact the plot.

The plot is loosely based on Jules Verne’s 1873 novel Around the World in Eighty Days.  The year is 1872 and Monsieur Phileas Fogg has placed a wager at the Reform Club that he can circumnavigate the world in eighty days or less. The game follows the course of this adventure, as narrated by Phileas Fogg’s manservant Passepartout, whose actions and decisions are controlled by the player.

After leaving London on an underwater train to Paris or a mail carriage to Cambridge, the player can choose their own route around the world, travelling from city to city. Each city and journey contains unique narrative content. In their role as valet, players must manage finances, their master’s health, and time as well as buying and selling items in different markets around the globe. The choices made by the player in story sections can also have a large impact on how the journey proceeds.

Another Eden

Another Eden is a free to play adventurous video game developed by Wright Flyer Studios and published by GREE Inc. Another Eden involves time travel elements, where players explore different points in time. It was self-published and released for Android and iOS in Japan in April 2017, and worldwide in 2019.

Despite being a mobile game created on the GREE platform, the game has little focus on social interactions and log-in bonuses frequently found on the platform. The game is free to play, with in-app purchases for in-game items. The game features 66 chapter main scenarios that continue to grow, with the gameplay involving the player time travelling through three main time periods; the past, present, and future.

The game also plays as a side-scrolling Japanese Role – Playing Game (JRPG), at times opening up for full 3D movement. The player directly maneuvers a character between locations and interacts with non-playable characters to progress through the game. Confrontations with enemy characters are played out with turn-based battles. New characters will join the party and grow stronger naturally over the course of the game flow; however the player may opt to spend “Chronos Stones” to obtain a larger roster of characters to use throughout the game. “Chronos Stones”, which can be obtained naturally through playing the game, or bought through in-app purchases, allows access to the “Star Dreaming Hall”, which allows the player to gamble gacha-style for a wide variety of characters.

Evoland 2

Evoland 2: A Slight Case of Space time Continuum Disorder is a 2015 adventure video game developed by Shiro Games, a French video game development company based in Bordeaux. Like its predecessor, the 2013 game Evoland, Evoland 2 is an adventure game that draws influence from a number of different video games, frequently implementing other genres/categories and gameplay styles during its story campaign.

Evoland 2 is the sequel to the original Evoland, with its graphics style similarly changing as the player travels through time and its varied gameplay styles being revealed as the player moves along the storyline. The scenario is based on time travel and different gameplay styles that are linked to the story and the player’s actions. These gameplay styles pay homage to older games that inspired the developers.

The majority of the game’s fighting system revolves around real-time fighting from a top-down angle. The game will often shift to new genres of play at predetermined points in the story, such as a side scrolling platform game, a match-3 puzzle game, a turn-based role-playing game, a vertically-scrolling shooting game, and a 2D fighting game. During the story campaign, players can also attempt to find hidden items scattered around the game world, such as Maana or Orikon Ore to upgrade Kuro and his party, and stars that act as bonus collectibles.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is a free – to – play action role – playing developed and published by miHoYo. The game features a fantasy open world environment and action based battle system using elemental magic, character switching and uses gacha game monetization for players to obtain new characters, weapons, and other resources. The game is online-only and features a limited multiplayer mode allowing up to four players to play together. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Android and iOS on September 28, 2020. Genshin Impact has also planned to release on Nintendo and PlayStation 5.

Genshin Impact takes place in the fantasy world of Teyvat, which is home to seven distinct nations, each of which is tied to an element and ruled by a god associated with it. The story follows a twin, referred to as the Traveler, who travelled across many worlds but becomes separated from their other twin by an unknown god in Teyvat. They travel across Teyvat with their newfound companion, Paimon, in search of their lost sibling and become involved in the affairs of the world and its nations. The game received a generally positive reception, with critics praising the combat and open-world freedom, while some criticism was raised at its endgame. The game grossed over $250 million within a month, making it one of the largest mobile game launches in history.

Genshin Impact is an open world action role – playing game that allows the player to control one of four interchangeable characters in a party. Switching between characters can be done quickly and during combat to the player to use several different combinations of skills and attacks. Characters may have their strengths enhanced in various ways, such as increasing a character’s level and improving artifacts and the weapons that the character equips. In addition to exploration, the player can attempt various challenges for rewards. Scattered across Teyvat are highly powerful enemies and domains that reward highly valuable resources, but claiming them uses up a currency called resin, which slowly regenerates over time. Completing these challenges grants the player progress towards increasing their Adventure Rank, which in turn unlocks new quests, challenges, and raises the World Level. The World Level is a measure of how strong the enemies within the world are and the rarity of rewards that defeating them gives.

The player can control their character and perform actions such as running, climbing, swimming, and gliding which are limited by stamina. Some characters possess abilities that can alter the environment, such as freezing water to create a path that can aid the player in traversing terrain. Many teleportation nodes exist throughout the world that players can warp to, and some unique statues heal and revive characters as well as provide benefits such as increasing player stamina if the proper item is offered. Items such as food and ore may be procured from the open world, while enemies and treasure chests drop other types of resources that may be used in enhancing a character’s strength. Players can obtain food from hunting animals, gathering wild fruit and vegetables, or purchasing them from a store. Most ingredients can be cooked into a dish. Some meals regenerate characters’ health, while others boost various statistics. Mining can be done by attacking and destroying mining nodes to produce ore. Ore can be refined and then used to enhance weapon strength or create weapons.

Each character has two unique combat skills: an elemental skill and an elemental burst. The elemental skill can be used at any time except for the cool down period immediately after use. In contrast, the elemental burst has an energy cost, requiring the user to amass sufficient elemental energy by defeating enemies or inflicting elemental statuses. Characters have control over one of seven natural elements: Cryo, Dendro, Pyro, Hydro, Anemo, Electro and Geo, which correspond to ice, nature, fire, water, air, electricity, and earth respectively. These elements can interact in different ways; for example, if a Hydro attack hits a target, the enemy will be inflicted with the “Wet” status, and if they are hit with a Cryo attack, it will inflict “Cold”. These two statuses combine into the “Frozen” status, temporarily preventing the target from performing any actions or until the player deals enough physical damage to the enemy. Switching between characters during combat and executing those skills allows those elemental interactions to take place. Certain elemental abilities may be required to solve puzzles within the over world.

A multiplayer mode is available in the form of co – op. Up to 4 players can play together in the over world and join domains. Player matching can either be done by requesting to connect with another player. If the player wishes to clear a domain with other players, they will be automatically matched up with others looking to tackle the same objective. The game features cross – platform play, so players on any platform can play with each other.

By completing quests to advance the story, the player can unlock three additional playable characters and other characters can be obtained via a gacha mechanic. Several premium in-game currencies, obtainable through in – app purchases and playing the game, can be used to obtain characters and weapons through the gacha system.
